PicoSure for Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is a very common skin complaint. Although it’s usually harmless, it can be quite unsightly and is something that many people want to get rid of. Hyperpigmentation comes in a few different forms but they can all be treated through the use of laser technology.

Below are the different types of hyperpigmentation and what they look like.

  • Liver spots – Liver spots, or ‘age spots’ are a very common form of hyperpigmentation. Liver spots in vary in size and shape but they usually occur as a result of sun damage and leave darkened patches of skin on the hands, face, shoulders and neck, although they can occur in other areas too.
  • Melasma – Melasma spots look similar to liver spots but they occur as a result of hormonal changes rather than sun damage. Pregnancy is a very common cause of this type of hyperpigmentation, which is why it’s sometimes referred to as the ‘mask of pregnancy’. Melasma is most common in women although it can sometimes affect men too.
  • Freckles – It might be surprising to learn that freckles are considered a form of hyperpigmentation. Many people have at least a few freckles on their body and for most people they’re not an issue. However when they are clustered together and dark in color, they can be considered unsightly, especially if they’re on the face.

PicoSure is a laser treatment that’s often used for tattoo removal but is also used for treating acne scars and hyperpigmentation. It is an FDA-approved treatment for many common skin complaints and can be used for skin rejuvenation too. The way it works is by shattering the pigment underneath the skin and therefore clearing up the appearance of hyperpigmentation on the skin’s surface.

PicoSure treatment is usually done over a number of sessions to provide the best results. The number of treatment sessions you’ll need will depend on the type of hyperpigmentation you have, how severe it is and the results you’re looking to achieve.

If you’d like to book a PicoSure treatment session for hyperpigmentation then get in touch and we’ll be happy to schedule an appointment for you. We can also answer any questions you might have about the treatment.
